How to make an appointment for a surgery ?

You just need to fill out the form from the website and / or contact the clinic by phone. Taking into account the success of our clinic and its international attendance, it usually takes between 1 and 6 months to get an appointment.

Where is the consultation done ?

The majority of consultations take place in Lisbon or in France.

Do I have to go to your clinic for an appointment ?

The medical consultation is mandatory before any intervention and will take place with the doctor the day before or the day of the intervention, however we can make an evaluation according to the patients’ needs by email. They send us their photos, blood tests, schedules and we give them a surgery price and pre-operative instructions, etc.

Should I let my hair grow before a surgery ?

The hair can be very short because on the day of the surgery, the surgeon will have to cut the hair, partially or totally, according to the importance of the session.

How long does a surgery take ?

The extent of an intervention may differ depending on the method chosen, the patient’s state of health, the number of grafts taken, and the size of the session. Generally, it starts early in the morning and ends in the afternoon. The average length of a large session is from 5 to 6 hours when performed by a large and trained team.

Is the surgery painful ?

Local anesthesia and premedication make the session painless.

Are there any visible marks after surgery ?

Small crusts are visible on the recipient area and disappear within 10 days. A slight frontal oedema may appear after surgery and disappear quickly (rare cases).
It is possible to wear a cap or hat when leaving the clinic.

When can I return to work or do sport activities ?

As far as possible, it is recommended not to work during the week following the surgery, and not to practice intense sports activities for one month.

I am currently on medical treatment, can I consider a hair transplant ?

During the preliminary examinations, the doctor will determine, in agreement with your doctor for certain pathologies (hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, etc …), if it is necessary to temporarily interrupt the treatment (anti-coagulant for example), or modify it, or delay the intervention.
In all cases, the intervention is carried out only when all the favourable conditions are met.

Is there an ideal age to do a hair transplantation ?

It is not recommended to do a hair transplant too young (under 20 years) or when the abnormal hair loss is not yet treated and stabilized; on the other hand, there is no age limit if you are healthy and if you have a dense donor area.

Can women do hair transplant ?

1/3 of patients are actually women, if the donor area is dense and healthy, it is quite possible to correct diffuse female alopecia.

JI am totally bald can I use another donor to do the hair transplant ?

Clinical studies have been conducted in this area and successfully and it is still impossible to collect without risk of rejection of stem cells on another donor.

I am sparse but not completely bald, can I do a hair transplant ?

It is possible to work between existing hair while respecting it but the implantation work will be more difficult and longer. It is always better to shave your head.

I have black skin and frizzy hair, can I consider a hair transplant ?

Yes, however the treatment in this case requires a specialized team because the cutting of the grafts is special (contact us). The “FUE” method is not indicated in the case of frizzy hair.

I am pregnant, can I program a hair transplant ?

You should wait until the end of the pregnancy and breastfeeding to schedule this type of surgery.

Can we harvest and cultivate stem cells for hair ?

Yes, and this is probably the future of hair transplantation, because it will soon be possible to collect stem cells in the donor area without depleting it, to store or cultivate them eventually, and to implant them on the skin sparse area.
Our teams are working to make all these new protocols available as soon as possible.

Are there any risk of rejection or failure ?

The stem cells are from the patient itself so there is no risk of rejection.
When the surgery is performed according to the rules of the art by an experienced team, there is no risk of failure.

Will the grafts last for life ?

The follicles that have been displaced will keep their genetic characteristics and will bring life to hair cycles throughout the patient’s life, the new hair will grow about 12mm per month and can be cut like the others.

Is there a treatment to follow after the surgery ?

The doctor will prescribe some medications that you should take for a few days after surgery and you should follow some post-operative instructions to ensure the success of the hair transplant.

Should I continue to do an anti-hair loss treatment after the hair transplant ?

If food supplements or the use of hair activator are not essential to the success of a hair transplant, their use is recommended both to preserve the remaining capital, but also to promote the growth of new hair.

Is there a treatment to follow after the surgery ?

The doctor will prescribe some medications that you should take for a few days after surgery and you should follow some post-operative instructions to ensure the success of the hair transplant.

s the use of microscopes really necessary ?

The preparation of the grafts with the naked eye or even with magnifying eyeglasses does not guarantee a high success rate. Indeed, the hair root is often transparent (white hair) and makes the preparation without microscopes completely impossible.
The stereoscopic binocular microscope preparation makes it possible to harvest up to 60% more viable grafts for the same area.

Is the result visible right away ?

No, the grafted hair undergoes trauma and falls at the same time as the small crusts on the first days. New anagenic phases (new cycles) begin to grow from the third month, and the result improves day by day. The result can be considered as definitive between the 8th and 10th month.

Can we detect a hair transplant ?

A hair transplant done according to the rules of art is undetectable, even by a hairdresser.
Visible bad examples usually come from the long-overdue period of artificial implants as “doll hair” or “leek field” graft.
However, it is recommended to contact clinics specialized in hair transplantation.
It is the most complex branch of plastic surgery and requires a team of up to ten technicians for a single patient, it is not the work of a single man.

Are there any visible scars at the base of the grafts ?

When the incisions that prepare the scalp to receive the grafts are made with suitable instruments and by experienced doctors, no unpleasant scar is to be feared at the base of the graft.
The direct injection of the grafts into the scalp eliminates any risk of scarring.

Do I get a guarantee if my hair does not grow ?

Yes, if one year after the intervention date, the patient has not obtained in the receiving area, the catch and the growth of at least 90% of implanted grafts, we commit ourselves to carry out a free intervention, after verification and agreement of our medical team.

Can everybody do a hair transplant ?

The indication is confirmed, or not, from the first contact with the clinic. Some patients will not be able to benefit from a successful intervention if their state of health does not allow it, or if they do not have a sufficient capacity “donor” to meet their needs. In these cases, patients can find other solutions for them. The success of a hair transplant can be guaranteed by the physician opinion.

Is it necessary to have several sessions ?

Each case is specific, a single session of small, medium, or large size, may be sufficient to cover the needs of a patient, but in some cases, depending on the evolution of alopecia or baldness, other sessions may be necessary.

How much hair can be implanted in one session ?

The number of grafts implanted in a session depends on the method chosen, on the density of the donor area and the know-how of the medical team, as well as the human resources. Nowadays we can implant more than 3000 follicular units in a single day, which represents about 6600 hairs.

In the case of multiple sessions, what is the delay between each surgery ?

A new extraction is possible after 4 months when part of the stem cells are regenerated.

What is the best method? FUT (FUSS) OR FUE PREMIUM ?

These two methods are part of the technique of follicular microtransplantation, and we cannot compare them in terms of values. They complement each other perfectly and only the specialist can determine which is the choice to make according to each patient.
The FUT (FUSS) will be recommended for “mega sessions, in the case of poor donor area, or in the case of frizzy hair.
FUE PREMIUM will be recommended for small, medium or large sessions, and will not leave a scar in the donor area.
Neither method is painful or demands restrict post-surgery instructions, and they offer the same aesthetic result.

Is it better to use a machine or robot to extract and implant ?

The use of devices, even “intelligent”, is very controversial because it can slowdown the surgery, reduce the donor area, which is the most valuable capital of the patient and it can carbonize the recipient site with laser and the grafts extraction is randomly done. The risk of transection and therefore the depletion of follicles is very high.
The zone-by-zone treatment does not optimize the distribution of the graft harvest carried out in order to obtain the best aesthetic result and the best harmony in terms of density.
When the different procedure steps are performed by technicians, each graft is checked and possibly “calibrated” under stereoscopic binocular microscope, and any injured grafts are removed and this choice cannot be done by a robot.
Finally, the high cost of this type of machine will impact the final price of the surgery. Nothing replaces the experience, the know-how and the reactivity of a solid and hyperspecialized team. The strength of such a team is based on each new case and on the experience obtained in the treatment of thousands of previous patients, and the willing to learn more and more each day. A robot has neither memory nor intuition.

What are the benefits and what are the risks when using medical tourism ?

The advantage is often economic, in fact, compared to rates in the French capital and comparable work, the gain is often 20 to 30%.
However, we must remain vigilant, some doctors are anxious to attract foreign patients and offer “packages” at “lower” prices including transport, accommodation and surgery. They atract Internet users by offering the lowest possible price and not prospects looking for quality and security at the best cost.
Especially in some Maghreb countries and on the borders of Asia and Europe!
It is unwise to buy on the internet a hair transplant like a flat screen or a trip.
You must choose specialized professionals to assure the maximum safety, comfort and hygiene for your surgery. The prices guarantee a suitable structure, the use of modern equipment and the provision of a trained team.

What is the advantage of choosing Portugal ?

Portugal is a member of the European community, with the legislation in force and the most exigent health standards. Lisbon is placed less than 3 hours by plane from the main European cities.
We have a partnership with some clinics in other countries and also coordinators who can provide a link and follow up after the patient returns to his home country.

What languages are spoken at the clinic ?

The director of the clinic is French, the secretary speaks French, English and Portuguese; some members of the medical team speak or understand French, English, Spanish, Russian and of course Portuguese.

Can I be helped to organize the trip and the stay ?

The patient can organize his own stay, or delegate his organization to the clinic or to our coordinator in France with the help of our private partners.

How long do I have to stay ?

The ideal is to arrive in Lisbon the day before the surgery and to leave the next day; a hair transplant does not require any control or special monitoring you will only need to stay for 2 nights.

Should I go with someone ?

You must come with someone and we can propose a touristic program to your friend.

How can I pay the surgery ?

You will be informed of the payment method when the surgery appointment is confirmed, and a deposit of 500 € (money order, bank transfer or credit card) will be required to block a date.
We recommend you to check with your bank before departure if you can use your bank cards abroad.

Can my blood tests and my surgery be reimbursed by Social Security ?

In the case of cosmetic surgery, biological examinations cannot be taken in charge by a health insurance company.

Can we catch a disease during this type of surgery ?

Every precaution is taken so that the health of the patient is preserved. Surgery rooms meet the highest standards of hygiene and asepsis, and the instruments are sterilized before each use. Some instruments are disposable and destroyed after each use.

Recently I have done a hair transplant and my scalp became insensitive in the back, is this normal?

Nerve endings were cut during extraction, they will regenerate in a few months, so it is normal to lose the sensitivity of the scalp around the extraction area, even after dissipation of the effect of anaesthesia.
Generally, the burning sensation of the first days is followed by a feeling of itching that quickly disappears.

Will my hair transplant be more successful if I do a "PRP" session during the procedure ?

The result of a hair transplant is guaranteed even without “PRP”, however with a “PRP” protocol, grafting is boosted, healing is accelerated, and the operative follow-up is lighter. Stem cells in the donor area regenerate faster.
Scientific studies have demonstrated the benefit of PRP in hair transplantation.
